Srinagar, Dec 19: Kashmir is likely to witness a change in weather conditions from the evening of December 20, with rain expected in the plains and snowfall in higher reaches, Meteorologist Malik Mubeen Ahmed said on Friday.
Ahmed said the next 24 hours will remain largely dry, with only minimal chances of precipitation in isolated areas. “From the evening of December 20, cloudy weather is expected to set in, bringing rain to the plains and snowfall to mountainous regions,” he said.
He said December 21 may see fairly widespread rainfall in the plains and snowfall in higher reaches, particularly in north Kashmir. Upper areas of north Kashmir could receive up to one foot of snowfall, while plains of Kupwara may witness 2–3 inches of snow.
Srinagar is likely to receive around 1–2 inches of snowfall.Similar weather conditions are expected in parts of central Kashmir, with snowfall in isolated pockets.
Ahmed further said that another weak western disturbance is likely around December 22, after which the weather is expected to remain mostly dry but cloudy till December 24. Predominantly dry weather is forecast to prevail until December 28.
