The Jammu & Kashmir Judicial Academy on Thursday concluded the academy-based phase of the Pre-Appointment Induction Training Programme for 39 Trainee Civil Judges (Junior Division), Batch-2026.
Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Sanjeev Kumar, congratulated the trainees and said the programme had equipped them with knowledge, skills and values necessary for effective discharge of judicial functions.
Emphasising that “justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done,” Justice Sanjeev Kumar urged the trainee judges to guard against personal, social, cultural and unconscious bias and ensure that judicial decisions are guided solely by the Constitution, law and evidence on record.
He described judicial office as a solemn constitutional trust requiring integrity, impartiality, patience and humility. He also highlighted challenges including inadequate judicial infrastructure and shortage of judicial officers, stressing the need for greater efficiency and resilience without compromising the quality or fairness of justice.
The Acting Chief Justice urged the trainees to remain fearless and independent, courteous and compassionate, while embracing technology and pursuing continuous learning.
Registrar General, High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, M. K. Sharma, also addressed the trainees and called upon them to uphold the highest standards of integrity, impartiality and diligence, while maintaining public confidence in the judiciary through fairness, competence and exemplary conduct.
Earlier, Director, J&K Judicial Academy, Naseer Ahmad Dar, said the academy-based training provided the trainees a foundation in law, judicial skills, court administration, technology-enabled justice delivery and the core values of judicial office. He said the trainees will now proceed for Court Attachment, which will provide practical exposure to court proceedings and judicial administration.
The programme was conducted under the patronage of Acting Chief Justice Justice Sanjeev Kumar and the guidance of Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Chairman, Governing Committee, J&K Judicial Academy.
