Srinagar, June 3: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday clarified that public access to Dachigam National Park remains unaffected and no restrictions have been imposed on visitors despite Chief Minister Omar Abdullah holding a review meeting at the park.
The clarification comes amid speculation that entry to the national park had been restricted following the National Conference Legislature Party meeting held at the wildlife reserve earlier in the day. Reports indicated that the Chief Minister shifted the meeting venue from his residence to Dachigam, sparking public curiosity and rumours regarding access restrictions.
Officials stated that tourists, nature enthusiasts and local visitors can continue to visit the park as per normal procedures. They emphasized that no special curbs or closures have been ordered and that tourism activities inside the park remain unaffected.
Located around 22 kilometres from Srinagar, Dachigam National Park is internationally known as the last major habitat of the endangered Hangul (Kashmir stag) and remains one of Kashmir’s most important eco-tourism destinations.
Authorities urged the public not to pay heed to unverified reports and reiterated that the park remains open for visitors in accordance with existing wildlife regulations.
