Budgam, May 24: In a stern warning aimed at safeguarding the rights and dignity of a minor victim, Budgam Police on Saturday cautioned the public against sharing photographs, names, or any other identifying details of the girl on social media, stressing that such acts are not only unethical but also punishable under law.
The advisory comes amid reports that certain individuals have been circulating images and personal information related to the minor on various online platforms. Police said the dissemination of such content violates legal protections available to children and risks fuelling misinformation, public anxiety, and social tensions.
Emphasizing the seriousness of the issue, police urged citizens, social media users, and media organizations to exercise restraint and responsibility while discussing the case online. Authorities warned that revealing the identity of a minor victim is strictly prohibited and that anyone found posting, sharing, or forwarding such content will face legal action.
Officials said that beyond compromising the privacy and safety of the victim, the spread of unverified information can hinder the investigation and create unnecessary speculation among the public.
Meanwhile, a case has already been registered under FIR No. 139/2026 at Police Station Budgam under Sections 137(1) and 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is being carried out under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Budgam.
Budgam Police said it is actively monitoring social media platforms and will take strict action against individuals or groups found violating legal provisions by revealing the identity of the minor or spreading misleading information.
Reaffirming its commitment to a fair and transparent investigation, police appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and rely only on verified information from official sources.
Protecting the identity of a child is not only a legal obligation but also a social responsibility,” the advisory emphasized, urging people to act responsibly and avoid sharing content that could further harm the victim and her family.
