The Jammu and Kashmir government has designated the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) as the State School Standards Authority (SSSA), aligning with the mandates of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The order, issued on July 1 by the School Education Department, states that the move aims to ensure transparent, independent, and effective regulation of schools across the Union Territory.
As the SSSA, JKBOSE will now be responsible for:
Setting and monitoring school standardsEnsuring compliance with norms related to safety, infrastructure, teacher qualifications, governance, and financial rules.
Overseeing the separation of regulatory, academic, examination, and administrative roles. The decision also follows recommendations from PARAKH, the national assessment centre under NCERT, which suggests that state examination boards should be notified as SSSAs to standardize school regulations nationwide.
Other boards already notified as SSSAs include CBSE, as well as the Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram school boards. With its established infrastructure and experience in curriculum development, examinations, and school affiliation, JKBOSE is deemed well-prepared to take on these expanded regulatory responsibilities.
