New Delhi, Dec 19 :The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the promotion of a large number of AGMUT-cadre IPS officers, including several who are currently serving or have previously served in Jammu and Kashmir, in a move aimed at strengthening senior police leadership across the Union Territory.
The promotion orders, issued on Friday from Kartavya Bhavan, New Delhi, were cleared by the Screening Committee in its meeting earlier this month. The promotions will take effect from January 1, 2026, or from the date of assumption of charge, whichever is later.
As per Order (V), IPS officers of the 2008 batch belonging to the AGMUT cadre have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Level-14 in the Pay Matrix.

Several officers from this batch have either served or are expected to be posted in key operational and district-level roles in Jammu and Kashmir, enhancing supervisory policing, counter-insurgency coordination and law-and-order management in the Union Territory.
In a major development for J&K policing, Order (VII) dated December 19, 2025, grants promotion to 22 AGMUT-cadre IPS officers of the 2013 batch to the Selection Grade (DIG level), Level-13 in the Pay Matrix. The officers promoted include Altaf Ahmed Shah, Bakar Hussain Samoon, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Mohd Yaseen Kichloo, Ashish Kumar Mishra, Nagpure Amod Ashok, Darade Sharad Bhaskar, V Hareshwar Swami, Vichitra Veer, Jimmy Chiram, Ankit Chauhan, Prashant Priya Gautam, Gurinderpal Singh, Apoorva Gupta, Ankit Kumar Singh, Vikas Kumar, Mohd Irshad Haider, Kumar Gyanesh, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Anil Kumar Lal, Rajendra Prasad Meena and Ranjit Singh Samyal.
