Srinagar, June 8: In a significant crackdown on narcotics networks, Srinagar Police has attached immovable properties worth nearly ₹4 crore belonging to two alleged drug peddlers under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The action is part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, aimed at eliminating the drug menace from the Union Territory.
According to police officials, the attached assets include residential houses, commercial shops, and land parcels that were allegedly acquired through proceeds generated from illegal narcotics trafficking.
In the first case, Police Station Sangam attached properties valued at approximately ₹3 crore belonging to Gulam Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar. The action was taken in connection with FIR No. 14/2026 registered under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act. Investigations revealed that the accused had allegedly accumulated substantial assets through drug-related activities.
The attached properties include a residential house, commercial establishments, and land, all of which have now been brought under legal attachment to prevent their sale, transfer, or concealment.
In a separate operation, Police Station Nowhatta attached a residential property worth around ₹1 crore belonging to Mohd Shafi Sheikh, son of Late Mohd Subhan Sheikh. The action relates to FIR No. 09/2018 registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act. Authorities stated that the property was identified as an illegally acquired asset linked to proceeds from narcotics trafficking.
Police said the move reflects a strategy of targeting not only drug traffickers but also the financial infrastructure supporting the illegal drug trade. By seizing properties allegedly purchased through criminal proceeds, law enforcement agencies aim to weaken narcotics networks and deter others involved in similar activities.
Srinagar Police reiterated its commitment to continuing strict action against drug smugglers and peddlers across the Valley. Officials emphasized that operations under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan will continue with full force to safeguard society, particularly the youth, from the growing threat of substance abuse.
The police have appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any information related to drug trafficking, stressing that collective efforts are essential to achieving the goal of a Drug-Free Kashmir.
