Shab-e-Meraj was observed across the Kashmir Valley on Friday night, with night-long prayers held in mosques and shrines despite the ongoing Chillai–Kalan, the 40-day period of the harshest winter in the region.
The main congregation was held at the Hazratbal Shrine on the banks of Dal Lake, which houses the sacred relic of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Thousands of devotees participated in special prayers, while religious scholars highlighted the spiritual significance of Shab-e-Meraj, which commemorates the ascension of the Prophet (PBUH) to the heavens.
Similar religious gatherings, including sermons and night-long prayers, were organized at major shrines and local mosques across the Valley. Prominent shrines such as Jenab Sahab Soura, Khanqah-e-Moula, and Aali Masjid at Eidgah also witnessed large gatherings of worshippers.
To ensure the safety and well-being of devotees, the Health Department set up a medical camp near the Hazratbal Shrine, with doctors, paramedics, and ambulances deployed to provide round-the-clock medical assistance.
Shab-e-Meraj, also known as Al-Isra Wal Meraj, marks the sacred night when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was taken on a divine journey to the seven heavens and met Allah (SWT).
