IGP Kashmir Shri V. K. Birdi, IPS, chaired a comprehensive review meeting on the monitoring of under-trial cases with district SSsP, Law Officers, and Pairvi Officers of the Kashmir Zone at PCR Kashmir today.
The meeting was attended by all range DIsG, district SSsP, Law Officers, Public Prosecutors, and Pairvi Officers.
Opening the session, the IGP outlined the key agenda points, after which district SSsP presented updates on case disposal, follow-up actions, and progress toward securing convictions in under-trial and under-investigation cases.
Discussions covered general crime issues with a particular focus on NDPS and UAPA cases, absconders, and other significant offenses. The status of preventive actions and pending inquest proceedings was also reviewed.Appreciating the efforts of district heads and Law Officers in crime prevention, the IGP emphasized the need to further enhance the quality of investigations. He highlighted the importance of improving conviction rates through robust investigation practices, increased use of scientific tools, and more effective follow-up systems, especially in narcotics and terror-related cases.
The IGP also reviewed the broader security situation in the Kashmir Zone, underscoring the role of non-kinetic measures such as strengthening the security grid, establishing dynamic nakas, and maintaining regular surveillance of anti-national elements.
Concluding the meeting, the IGP reaffirmed the J&K Police’s commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining security across the region. He urged officers to uphold transparency, accountability, and timely case disposal to secure convictions and safeguard citizens’ rights.
