Jammu, Dec 19: BJP State Spokesperson for Jammu and Kashmir Rajni Sethi on Friday criticised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the widely discussed incident in which he is seen pulling the veil of a woman practitioner, saying no public figure has the authority to act in a manner that undermines a woman’s dignity.
Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Sethi said a woman is not an object to be handled at anyone’s whim and asserted that every woman deserves full respect.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated remarks on women being equal partners in national progress, she said the BJP stands firmly by that principle.
She said any disrespect towards a woman, irrespective of her religious background, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the party.
Sethi added that the BJP would examine the matter internally and take a view based on the established facts.
Reiterating the party’s position, the BJP spokesperson said any act that undermines a woman’s dignity runs contrary to the values upheld by the party.
