New Delhi: The All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the Government of India to take immediate steps to ensure the safety and security of Indian medical students pursuing education in Iran amid growing regional uncertainty. In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, AIMSA expressed concern over the well-being of nearly 3,000 Indian medical students currently enrolled in various medical universities across the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The association said that the prevailing situation in the region has triggered anxiety among students and their families back home.AIMSA noted that Indian students largely depend on local infrastructure, hostels and academic institutions in Iran, making them particularly vulnerable during periods of instability.
The association stressed the need for close monitoring of the situation by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to prevent any untoward incident. The student body has requested the government to strengthen coordination with the Indian Embassy in Iran, establish dedicated emergency helplines, issue timely advisories, and keep contingency or evacuation plans ready, if required.
“Indian medical students represent the future of India’s healthcare system, and their safety is of paramount importance,” the letter said, expressing confidence that the Government of India would take necessary measures to safeguard Indian citizens abroad.
The letter was signed by Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President (Jammu and Kashmir) of AIMSA.
