Jan 11 2026 : A 16-year-old boy was killed after the rifle of his father, a Village Defence Guard (VDG), went off accidentally at their residence in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.Official sources told that the incident took place at Loyee Dhar village in the Mughal area when VDG Pyare Lal was cleaning his service rifle at home.
During the process, the weapon accidentally discharged, and the bullet struck his son, Anuj Kumar, a Class 10 student, resulting in his death on the spot.A police party immediately rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Chatroo hospital for post-mortem examination.
The police have initiated inquest proceedings to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the firing, they said.They added that the rifle involved in the incident has been seized for forensic examination, and statements of the family members are being recorded as part of the investigation.
