Dhaka, May 29: A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh, nicknamed “Donald Trump” because of its distinctive blond hair resembling the hairstyle of U.S. President Donald Trump, has been saved from Eid-ul-Adha sacrifice and moved to the national zoo in Dhaka after gaining massive attention on social media.
The nearly 700-kilogram buffalo became an internet sensation in recent weeks, attracting thousands of visitors to a farm in Narayanganj near Dhaka. Photos and videos of the unusual animal went viral, with many people amazed by its rare albino appearance, flowing blond hair, and calm temperament.
According to reports, the buffalo had already been sold for ritual sacrifice during Eid-ul-Adha. However, as public interest continued to grow, Bangladesh authorities intervened at the last moment, citing security concerns and the extraordinary attention surrounding the animal. The government reportedly refunded the buyer and arranged for the buffalo to be relocated to the national zoo, where it will be protected and cared for.
Officials at the zoo have designated a special enclosure for the buffalo and assigned caretakers to ensure its well-being. The animal is expected to become one of the zoo’s major attractions, with strict measures being taken to prevent overcrowding and stress.
The buffalo’s owner, Ziauddin Mridha, said the animal is unusually gentle and requires special care, including multiple daily feedings and baths. Albino buffaloes are considered extremely rare in Bangladesh, making the animal even more unique.
What began as a routine Eid livestock sale ultimately turned into a remarkable rescue story, with the buffalo’s viral fame helping save it from sacrifice and securing it a new home at Bangladesh’s national zoo.
