Ganderbal, May 23: A large-scale search and rescue operation has been launched by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in Ganderbal district after a girl reportedly went missing and is feared to have drowned in a power canal in the area. Rescue teams rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported and immediately began intensive search efforts.
According to officials, SDRF personnel, assisted by local police, emergency responders, and volunteers, are carrying out extensive searches along the canal and downstream areas. Divers and trained rescue workers have been deployed to comb the fast-flowing waters, while additional teams remain on standby to support the operation if required.
Eyewitnesses said that locals initially attempted to locate the girl before alerting the authorities. Following the information, rescue teams reached the site with specialized equipment and launched a coordinated operation to trace the missing girl. The difficult terrain and strong water currents have posed challenges for rescuers, but search efforts continue without interruption.
Officials stated that all possible measures are being taken to locate the girl at the earliest. Search operations are being conducted at multiple points along the canal, with teams carefully monitoring downstream stretches where the current could have carried her.
The incident has triggered concern among residents, who have gathered near the area hoping for positive news. Authorities have appealed to the public to stay away from the canal and allow rescue teams to carry out their work safely and efficiently.
