
Srinagar, May 22: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has declared Saturday, May 23, 2026, as a public holiday across the Kashmir Division on the occasion of the revered Urs of Hazrat Shah-i-Hamdan (RA).
According to the official notification, all government offices, educational institutions, public sector undertakings, and other government establishments in the Kashmir Division shall remain closed to mark the annual observance of the saint’s Urs.
Hazrat Shah-i-Hamdan (RA), one of the most respected Sufi saints in Kashmir’s history, played a pivotal role in spreading Islam, spirituality, and traditional arts in the Valley. Thousands of devotees are expected to participate in special prayers and religious gatherings at various shrines associated with the saint.
Students, government employees, and the general public are advised to take note of the holiday while planning their schedules. The holiday is expected to facilitate smooth participation in the religious observances and commemorative events being held across the Valley.
