Srinagar, Dec 24: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi, on Tuesday chaired a comprehensive security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to evaluate preparedness for the smooth and peaceful conduct of upcoming events across the Valley.
During the meeting, senior officers briefed the IGP on existing security arrangements and deployment strategies. Emphasizing proactive planning, the IGP directed that all security measures be finalized well in advance. He called for strengthening of checkpoints, particularly during night hours, and urged personnel to maintain heightened alertness at sensitive and vulnerable locations.
He also stressed the need for strict surveillance against elements posing a threat to peace and security, along with intensified area domination within respective jurisdictions.
Anticipating an increase in tourist inflow ahead of New Year celebrations, IGP Kashmir instructed officers to implement multi-layered security at major tourist destinations. Special focus was laid on cable car terminals, forest routes, busy tourist hubs, and key access roads. He highlighted the importance of coordinated patrolling, real-time intelligence sharing, and continuous monitoring to ensure public safety.
Taking note of prevailing weather forecasts, the IGP directed officers to ensure operational readiness of both personnel and equipment to effectively manage weather-related challenges while ensuring uninterrupted security and public assistance. Security arrangements along highways, railway tracks, and at railway stations throughout the Valley were also reviewed.
The meeting was attended by all Deputy Inspectors General (DIsG) of the Kashmir Zone, DIG CRPF North and South Srinagar, DIG CID Kashmir, district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), SSP PCR Kashmir, SSP Railways, and other senior officers.
The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to maintain enhanced vigilance, strengthen inter-agency coordination, and ensure effective implementation of security protocols for the peaceful and orderly conduct of all forthcoming events.
