The Principal District and Sessions Court Kupwara has sentenced a Pakistani national, Hanzullah Yaseen Raie alias Abu Ukasa, to ten years of rigorous imprisonment in a 2016 attempt-to-murder and arms possession case registered at Police Station Sogam.
Judge Manjeet Singh Manhas awarded Raie ten years under Section 307 RPC along with a ₹10,000 fine.
He also received ten years under Section 7/25 Arms Act and five years under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, with additional fines.
All sentences will run concurrently as they stem from one composite incident. The court granted him the benefit of set-off under Section 428 CrPC, noting that he has already spent over nine years in custody since June 2016.
While acknowledging the security implications of the case, the court said it did not qualify for a life sentence, citing mitigating factors including the convict’s voluntary confession and the absence of injuries during the incident. After completing his sentence—subject to any lawful remission—Raie will be processed under the Foreigners Act for repatriation to Pakistan. A copy of the order was provided to him free of cost.
