Srinagar, Nov 21: The Omar Abdullah led government has taken a firm stand against the proposed twenty percent peak-hour electricity surcharge, asserting that no additional burden will be placed on the people of Jammu and Kashmir at a time when winter already intensifies daily hardships.
Senior NC leader Tanvir Sadiq stated that the government considers electricity a basic necessity during the harsh Kashmiri winters, not a luxury that can be subjected to punitive charges. He emphasized that the administration will not allow any unfair or ill-timed proposal that might worsen the situation for households already grappling with cold weather and economic strain
.According to Sadiq, the government has made it unequivocally clear that the surcharge proposal is unacceptable and will not be implemented under any circumstances.The statement comes amid widespread public criticism and strong reactions from various political leaders opposing the suggested hike in morning and evening power tariffs.
