Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday unveiled a significant rehabilitation initiative for border residents, confirming the construction of 133 new houses for families affected by Pakistani shelling in Poonch district.During his visit, the LG emphasized that the administration has consistently supported those who suffered losses due to cross-border firing.
He noted that out of 14 severely affected families, 13 have already been provided government jobs during the Union Home Minister’s visit, while one child has been given an assurance letter for future assistance.
Sinha highlighted that while earlier relief under SDRF and central aid amounting to Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh for damaged houses was provided, it was not enough to fully rebuild homes. To bridge this gap, the Human Resource Development Society (HRDS), a well-known social service organisation, has taken up the construction of 133 permanent houses, each costing around Rs 10 lakh, ensuring safe and dignified homes for the affected families.“As you can see, the work has been completed within six months. This is timely, secure and compassionate rehabilitation — development with a human touch,” the LG said.
Senior officials, including J&K Police Chief Nalin Prabhat and IGP Kashmir, accompanied the LG and reviewed the overall security situation in the region. Relief material was also distributed to civilians impacted during Operation Sindoor, with assurances that all damaged residential structures will be rebuilt without delay.
