Jammu, November 14: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah inaugurated a new block of residential flats at Muthi. The move strengthens the Government’s housing infrastructure for employees.He opened the facility by cutting a ceremonial ribbon. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, Additional Chief Secretary Dheeraj Gupta, DG Estates Tariq Hussain Ganai, DD Estates Jammu Dr. Vikas Sharma and senior officers attended the event.The block includes 28 one room flats in a Ground plus six floors layout. Each unit has a bedroom, living area, kitchen and washroom. The design focuses on efficient space use and cost control.The Chief Minister inspected several units and expressed satisfaction with the layout. He said the project will help meet accommodation needs of employees.DG Estates Ganai said the project follows functional design and structural safety. He said the department is working on a plan to upgrade old colonies in phases. Dr. Vikas Sharma briefed the Chief Minister on amenities and supervision systems that support quality control and timely delivery.The Chief Minister said the Government aims to expand residential infrastructure and ensure safe and planned housing for employees. He said the administration is working to increase the availability of modern and employee friendly units across Jammu and Kashmir.He later inspected the construction of 56 two room flats, 28 each at Ahata Amar Singh and Sarwal. These Ground plus six floors buildings include two bedrooms, a living area, kitchen and two washrooms. The projects are set for completion in December 2025.He asked officers to use land efficiently and maintain strong standards in construction. He stressed the need to replace unsafe quarters with upgraded facilities.He said the 84 units coming up in Muthi, Ahata Amar Singh and Sarwal will reduce the housing shortage. He said the new units will support a better living environment and a fair system for allocation across employee groups.He praised the Estates Department for the pace of work at multiple sites and called for continued upgrades in public infrastructure for employee welfare.
