Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday voiced deep concern over the National Medical Commission’s decision to cancel the recognition of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, stating that the move has dealt a serious blow to the academic and professional future of students from the Union Territory.Terming the decision “deeply unfortunate,” the Chief Minister said the institute was established with the objective of strengthening medical education infrastructure in J&K and providing aspiring doctors from the region with quality education closer to home.

He called for a review of the decision and emphasized the need for constructive engagement between the National Medical Commission and the UT administration to resolve outstanding issues at the earliest.
The Chief Minister also assured affected students that the government stands with them and will explore all possible avenues to safeguard their academic interests. He underlined that protecting the future of young medical aspirants must remain a top priority and appealed to the NMC to adopt a student-centric approach while addressing compliance and recognition-related concerns.
